Chester "Chet" E. NelsonMarch 15, 1921 ~ March 14, 2017 (age 95)
Chester “Chet” E. Nelson, age 95 of Viroqua, passed away on March 14, 2017 at the Bland-Bekkedal Center for Hospice. Chet was born on March 15th, 1921 to Alex and Helen (Eskestrand) Nelson on the family farm in West Prairie. On January 24th, 1948 he married Jeanne Helen Zitzner at the Liberty Pole Methodist Church. Chet and Jeanne were blessed with two children; Cheryl and Curt. Early in their marriage, they accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior, and were sustained and blessed throughout their lives. Chet farmed the homestead until 1975 when he and Jeanne built their home on the Tewalt school site. They moved to Viroqua in 1995. He was a proud 50 year member of the Gideon’s International. In 1990 they joined the Bad Axe Lutheran Church when the West Prairie Hauge church closed.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jeanne; His children Cheryl and Curt; Grandchildren, Kristen Santilli, Kaila Langhrer, Kyle, Jonathan, Antonia, Brenton, and Laura Nelson; Great-grandchildren, Devin, Danielle, and Dylan Langhrer, Austin, James, Broderick, and Connor Nelson. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Hendrickson; Sister-in-law, Joyce Funk; Brother-in-law, John (Carol) Zitzner.
He was preceded in death by Earl, Bernice, Noel, and Evelyn Nelson, Sylvia and Ole Overbo, Synora and Edwin Lunder, and Frederick Funk.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Bland-Bekkedal Hospice Center. A special thank you to Michelle Felton for her daily visits to Chet, whose face would light up when she entered the room.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 17th at 11 a.m. at the Bad Axe Lutheran Church with Pastor Don Greven officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
