Dr. David E. Vig
Dr. David E. Vig, a well-known Viroqua physician, died on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at age 94. David and his twin brother, DeVerne, were born in LaCrosse on August 20, 1922 to Edward and Ellen (Olson) Vig. Always together, the twins attended Viroqua Elementary School, Viroqua High School, and the University of Wisconsin for both undergraduate studies and medical school. They served together in the United States Army Air Corps for four years during World War II. After graduating from medical school, the twins practiced medicine in Viroqua for nearly forty years with their older brother, Edward Vig, MD, and their brother-in-law, Lars Gulbrandsen, MD. David and DeVerne loved all kinds of sports, especially golf, basketball, baseball, hunting and fishing. David met Betty Zwickey while attending the University of Wisconsin and they dated throughout their college years. They married in 1951 shortly after David graduated from medical school and Betty graduated with a degree in Speech and Language Pathology. David and Betty had three children, Steven, Susan and Teresa (Terry).
David is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty David Vig; his twin brother, DeVerne Vig, MD; his three children: Steven Vig, MD (Joy Greenway, MD); Susan Vig Saucier, RN, MS (William Saucier, MD); Teresa Vig Rein, JD (Michael Rein, JD); and his six grandchildren: Sierra Vig, Savanna Vig, Caitlin Saucier Feltner (John Feltner), Caroline Saucier Kravit (J.J. Kravit), Marcus Rein, Jordan Rein; and nieces and nephews. Friends and family will miss his quiet kindness, commitment to his family and profession, unselfish generosity, and quick sense of humor.
