Glida R. UnsethDecember 9, 1939 ~ May 7, 2017 (age 77)
Glida Rosealee Unseth, age 79, of Viroqua, was called to heaven on May 7th, 2017 at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua following a long illness. She was born on December 9th, 1939 in Victory, WI to Howard and Clara (Stalsberg) Alderman. Her family later moved to De Soto, WI where Glida attended school. Following school, she worked as a housekeeper near Viroqua, where she met her husband Clinton “Blotty: Unseth. On September 17th, 1955, she was united in marriage to Clinton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They made their first home in the rear of the family business, the Appleton Auto Parts store in Viroqua until 1971. They then moved to Dach Ridge. It was there that their daughter Theresa and sons, Gary and Monty were raised. Glida was a homemaker and the family appreciated her home cooking, especially her apple pies. She had a fondness for animals, especially kittens and enjoyed the adventure of family car rides.
Clinton and his brother Trooper purchased a cabin in northern Wisconsin, on the St. Croix flowage near Solon Springs. Glida enjoyed the ride up to the lake and loved the beauty and peacefulness of the lake, treasuring the times spent there with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Theresa Unseth, Gary (Joyce) Unseth of Viroqua, and Monty (Denise) Unseth of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchild, Shawn (Jackie) Unseth of Viroqua; step-grandchildren, Kristina Reinhart of Eau Claire, WI, Steven Reinhart of Denver, CO and Mike (Kim) and John Vervalen, of East Grand Forks, MN; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kylie Unseth of Viroqua, and Daymon Unseth of DeForest, WI; and step-great-grandchildren, Madison Koehler of Eau Claire, WI and Noah Vervalen of East Grand Forks, MN; sisters; Genievie Hyche of Bessemer, Alabama, and Shelby Jean Weber of De Soto, WI; and brother Harlan (Carol) Alderman of Viroqua, WI, as well as many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clinton on April 15th, 1997; her parents; sisters and brother-in-laws, Evelyn (Bud) Page, Helen (Ernest) Sanders, Woodrow Hyche, and Richard Weber; grandson, Patrick Unseth, as well as other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 11th at 11 a.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Pastor George Schick officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vernon Manor activity fund, Living Faith Food Pantry, or the Driftless Humane Society.
