Hilda M OliverJanuary 24, 1923 ~ February 27, 2017 (age 94)
Hilda Marie (Sletten) Oliver, 94, passed away February 27, 2017 at Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua, where she had lived for the past several years. Hilda was born on the Sletten Family Farm in Sterling Township, Vernon County on January 24, 1923, the second daughter of Edward and Virginia (Taylor) Sletten. She was united in marriage to George Oliver on October 28, 1942. Together, they operated the Oliver Family Farm. While working on the farm, an accident occurred in which she suffered the loss of her lower left leg. She was only 49 years old. Despite that tragedy, she learned to drive the car, the truck, and operate farm equipment. She was always in the barn doing the milking. She lived a life of quiet courage and always put other’s needs first. Whenever a visitor stopped by there was always a hot meal before they could leave. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were gardening, canning, and sewing. She loved her front porch, where she would prepare fruit and vegetables for canning.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Virginia Sletten; her husband, George Oliver; one sister, Evelyn Oliver; and one brother Harold Sletten. Hilda had no natural born children but is survived by her foster son, Lloyd (Junior) Olson of DeSoto; one brother, Donald Sletten, and one sister, Verla Stueland, both of San Benito, Texas; also, many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Rest in peace dear lady.
