Jack L. Heal, age 80, of rural Viroqua, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 9th, 2017. He was born on April 18th, 1936 to Ted and Gladys (Kast) Heal at the Sugar Grove Store. He attended Readstown High School and graduated in 1954. He then attended the Farm and Industry Short Course program at UW-Madison. On February 22nd, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Odella Solverson. He was a farmer. Jack operated the family dairy and tobacco farm on Stump Ridge. He was a lifelong member of the Franklin Lutheran Church, in which he was baptized, confirmed, married, and served on church council. He also served on the Kickapoo School Board for 18 years. He continued to work on the farm hauling grain, and supervising the grain bins. He enjoyed the precious time with his wife and family, working on the farm, and watching sports. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a wonderful neighbor on Stump Ridge. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Jack was a proud member of the Society of the Mayflower descendants.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Odella Heal, children; Jackie (Mike) Millard, Patty (Craig) Forde, Dr. Greg (Lisa) Heal, and Shelley (Mark) Schroeder. Grandchildren; Zack and Alex Millard, Tiffiny (Adam) Green, Hannah (Zeke) Carney, Paige Forde. Greg, John, William, Thomas, and James Garfield Heal. Taylor, Beau (Fiancée Taylor Wilson), Shelby, Lexus, and Jack Schroeder, Great-Grandchildren; Wesley and Brooks Green, and Nola Carney, sister; Mary Lou Pool, Sister-in-law; Siri Smith, and a brother-in-law; Gordon (Margorie) Dull, As well as many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a premature son, Baby Heal, parents; Ted and Gladys Heal, sisters; Linda (Junior) George, Arlene (Leland) Crook, and a brother-in-law; Burdell Smith.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 13th at 11 a.m. at the Franklin Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Fox officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, friends may also call after 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
