Richard Thomas Venner, age 41 of Genoa passed away on Thursday, June 22nd, 2017 at University Hospital in Madison as the result of a heart attack. He was born on February 10, 1976 in La Crosse to Larry and Margaret “Muggs” (Spah) Venner. At age five as a kindergartner he was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. He graduated from De Soto High School and worked in construction until the diabetes caused him vision problems and he was forced to retire. On November 6, 2010 he married Charlotte “Char” Cina. Although he had the vision problems he had great interest in decorating for and celebrating any occasion. One of his greatest passions was decorating for Halloween. Seeing and hearing all the excitement from the families passing through the haunted house is what gave him the most joy. He loved coming up with new adventures for him and the kids and always went above and beyond. Richard enjoyed being a part of anything and everything he could with family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Richard is survived by his wife, Char, three children, Elsie, Bayne, and Celia at home, his parents,
Larry and Muggs Venner of Genoa, one sister, Laurie (Gary Day) Widner of Westby. One brother,
Larry (Tera Foellmi) Venner, Jr. of Brownsville, MN. six nieces and nephews, Danielle and
Dylan Widner, Sophie and Savannah Venner, Shelby De Garmo, Kekoa Rodgers, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and two brothers-in-law, John Cina and Roger Widner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 29th, 2017 at the St. Charles Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Father Doss officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family. Burial will take place at a later date.
