Agnes “Aggie” (Leis) Thielker, age 54 of La Crosse and formerly of Viroqua, passed away on Friday, April 13th, 2018 at the Gundersen Health Medical Center in La Crosse surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 22nd, 1963 to Reynold “Reinie” and Angeline “Angie” Leis in Viroqua, WI. Aggie graduated from Viroqua High School and went to Milwaukee Area Technical College where she received a certificate in Child Care. Her epilepsy prevented her from holding a job in Child Care, but she volunteered at day care centers as her health permitted. She was united in marriage to Russell Thielker on June 24th, 1989, at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Viroqua, WI. A diabetic since the age of 5, Aggie was given a second chance at life when she received a kidney/pancreas transplant in March of 1989 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. She lost her kidney in 2015 but was the longest pancreas transplant survivor at the UW Hospital. She enjoyed playing pool and cards with her nieces, nephews, and friends. She also liked to embroider birth announcements for family members and friends.
Aggie is survived by her loving husband, Russ; mother, Angie Leis; siblings, Michael (Barbara) Leis, Mary (Ivan) Cowell, Barbara (Richard) Arendt; brothers-in-law, Roger Skildum, Kenneth (Marcia) Thielker, Leonard Thielker and Theodore Thielker; sisters-in-law, Anna (Kent) Wendorf, Ruth (John) Elsen, Nancy Zurenda and Charlotte (Duane) Leurquin; 10 nieces and nephews; special friend, Karen Fisher; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Reynold “Reinie” Leis; sister, Debra Skildum; grandparents, Arthur and Agnes Leis and Casper “Shep” and Eleanora Leis; and brothers-in-law, John Thielker, and Thomas Zurenda; as well as other family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 18th at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Viroqua with Father Michael Klos officiating. Burial will take place in the Viroqua Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Thorson Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17th from 4-6 p.m. They may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
