Bobbie T. Best, age 96 of Viroqua passed away on Thursday evening At the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. He was born in Viroqua on January 11, 1922 to Eddie and Mertie (Straight) Best. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 96th Division. His unit saw action in the Philippines. He was awarded the Meritorious Unit Award with the Gold Star and Bronze Arrowhead. On August 5, 1950 he married his beloved wife, Joyce Harris. She was a country school teacher and he was working for the Vernon County Highway Department. He retired after 42 years of service. For several years they wintered in Chandler, Arizona. Joyce passed away on June 29, 2014. He was a member of the Viroqua Church of Christ, Running-Johnson-Ray VFW Post No. 3032, Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post No. 138, Viroqua Eagles Aerie No. 2707, and the 96th Infantry Division Association.
Bobbie is survived by his special neighbors Charlotte Kirking, Shirley Olson, Todd and Phyllis Kirking and their sons Eric (Megan) Kirking and Nick (Cali Piojda) Kirking whom he thought of as his and Joyce’s grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Larry Mosher officiating. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery.
