Iva Viena Cade, age 101 passed away on Wednesday evening, April 18, 2018 at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. She was born on February 14, 1917 at Cashton to Frank and Weston (Mains) Currier. She graduated from Cashton High School in 1935 and then attended beauty school. She worked at Vernon Memorial Hospital and on January 1, 1944 married Norman Cade. They farmed at Liberty Pole rural Viroqua on the Cade family farm which had been in the family since 1854. Norman passed away on June 18, 1987. She moved into Viroqua in 2001 and the past seven years has made her home at the Fairhaven Assisted Living facility in Viroqua. She was a member of the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church and the Alec Lowrie Women’s Relief Corps No. 18. Norman and Iva were able to take trips to Texas, Montana, and Missouri. She was also active in the Joy and Esther circles and homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers, reading, embroidery, and doing word finds. She also did knitting, crocheting, and Gary Gilbertson’s TV and radio show. Above all she loved her family and also Tennesse Ernie Ford’s music.
Iva is surived by two sons; Calvin (Judy) Cade of rural Viroqua, Harvey Lee (Yvonne) Cade of Holmen, six grandchildren; Kathleen Cade, Karen (Jason) Ackman, Karla (Eric) Dunlap, Debra (Jay) Thaldorf, Barbara (Terry) Dickman, and David (Kimberly) Cade. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Carol Cade, two sisters; Bessie Currier, Velma (Herman) Mason, two brothers; Cecil Currier, Ray (Evelyn) Currier, one brother-law, Arnold (Erma) Cade, and two sisters-in-law, Edith (Alfred) McClain and Lucille (Albon) Peterson. The family wishes to thank the staff at Vernon Manor and Fairhaven for great care.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, April 26th, 2018 at the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church with Pastor Jean Waldron officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Pole Cemetery at rural Viroqua. Family and friends may call at the church after 10 a.m. on Thursday.
