Reynold "Reinie" M. LeisJanuary 18, 1931 ~ February 28, 2017 (age 86)
Reynold “Reinie” M. Leis, age 86 of Viroqua passed away on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017 surrounded by family after many long years of dementia. He was born January 18, 1931 to Casper “Shep” and Eleanora (Suhr) Leis in Cashton. He was united in marriage on June 21, 1950 to Angeline Leis at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on St. Mary’s Ridge. Reinie and Angie were married 66 years. Reinie and Angie first settled in Angelo, Monroe County, and later moved to Viroqua where they lived for 60 years. Throughout the years, Reinie worked as an Orderly at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta, a gas station attendant for Herb Egeness, farmed, drove truck for Kickapoo Furs, and retired from the Vernon County Highway Department after 30 yrs. of service. Reinie was a member of St. Mary’s parish where he was an usher, communion distributor, and a Mass server until his health required him to stop. Reinie was also an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also restored old engines. He restored a 1932 Allis Chalmers B which he took to Antique Tractor Shows. He enjoyed all of these things until dementia took over.
Reinie is survived by his loving wife Angie, his son Michael (Barbara), his daughters Mary (Ivan) Cowell, Barbara (Richard) Arendt, and Agnes (Russell) Thielker, son-in-law Roger Skildum; 10 grandchildren: Christopher (Connie) Leis, Michelle (Greg) Feucht, Angula Cowell, Andy (Jessie) Cowell, Mathew (Wendy) Skildum, Daniel (Pam) Skildum, Appolonia (Kevin) Tritt, Kyle (Ashley) Arendt, Keith, (Amy) Arendt, Katie (Peter) Williquette; 25 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Carol Leis along with many other relatives and friends.
Reinie was preceded in death by a daughter Debra Skildum, his parents Casper and Eleanora Leis, and siblings Vernetta “Cookie” Vian, Kenny, Gerald “Jerry”, and Harvey
The family would like to thank Dr. Koons for his years of great care. We would also like to thank Reinie’s caregivers: Sissy Morrison, Linzi Miller, Diane Baker, Lisa and Erica Fasciano for the tender and loving care they gave him throughout the years. A special thanks to little Ellie who entertained Dad and gave him great joy.
Reinie’s family would like to express their gratitude for the volunteers who helped sit with him: Odean Robson, Charlotte Kirking, and Esther Cook, also deceased volunteers; Ardell Suiter and Loraine Mageland.
A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, March 6th 2017 at St. Mary’s Annunciation Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with Fr. Joseph Arokiam officiating. Burial will take place in the Viroqua Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua.
