Sandra Lee Ewing, age 71, of Readstown, died April 16, 2019 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sandra was born on September 18, 1947, in Glenwood, Wisconsin to the late Donald and Fern (Smith) Gleiter. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. Upon graduation, she studied Cosmetology and became a Beautician for eight years. On July 11, 1970, Sandra married Lyle Fay Ewing in Independence, Iowa, where they lived before relocating to Readstown, Wisconsin in 1978. Together they raised two sons. In 1972, Sandra became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Independence, Iowa. After moving to Readstown, she worked as a cook at the Kickapoo High School for fourteen years. Later, she retired from the Richland Center Wal-Mart after fifteen and a half years of service. Sandra loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. She liked having a good time with friends and family. With her great sense of humor and warm smile, she had the ability to make you feel welcome and special. Notably, she had a soft spot for all babies and children and was extraordinary with them. Sandra was an avid Elvis fan. Her collection of Elvis memorabilia was among her most prized possessions. She loved her animals and rescued any strays in need of a loving home. Sandra’s greatest love was for her family. She was a dedicated mother who treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as a Grandma. There’s no denying that her grand babies, as she called them, were the people she loved spending her time with the most.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Lyle Ewing; son, Michael (Nichole) Ewing of Readstown; ten grandchildren; Brentyn Ewing, Dalton Ewing, Cooper Ewing, Dayton Ewing, Micah Ewing, Ariana Rutherford, Kenneth Garrity, Abigail Garrity, Dakota Garrity, and Ayden Garrity; two brothers, Wayne (Debra) Gleiter of Waterloo, Iowa and Gary (Robin) Gleiter of Oelwein, Iowa; in addition to many nieces’ and nephews. Sandra is preceded in death by her son, Brent (Sarah) Ewing, her parents and grandparents. Sandra will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
