Trygve M Overbo

November 2, 1938 ~ April 12, 2018 (age 79)

Trygve Martin Overbo, age 79 of Viroqua passed away on Thursday Morning, April 12th, 2018 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua.  He was born in Viroqua on November 2, 1938 to Ingvar and Hazel (Hetland) Overbo. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1956 where he was active in basketball, baseball, and music.  He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse. He married Erma Wanless on August 17, 1963. He taught in Wausau Area Schools and then joined the J. C. Penny Co.  They returned to Viroqua in 1982 where he operated Overbo Shoe Inn and prior to retirement sold insurance for Rural Insurance.  Trig was a great promoter of Viroqua and instrumental in the development of Heritage Days. He was a strong supporter of Viroqua High School Blackhawks, Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers and was an avid golfer. He also was appointed by the governor to serve on the state advisory council for vocational education.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Erma, their children; Todd (Kathy) Overbo, Heidi Overbo, and Trygve II (Ashley) Overbo, eight grandchildren; Terrah, Tabithah, Tashah, Trevor,Ty, Trace, Charlie and Ellie.  He is further survived by six great grandchildren; Madison, Connor, Taylor, Salem, Tyson, and Dawsyn, one sister, Helen (Dan) Rude, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Conrad.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17th, 2018 at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Friends may call on Monday evening, April 16th from 5-7 at the funeral home. The family encourages you to wear Packers, Badgers, or Blackhawk attire to the celebration of Trig’s Life. The family suggests memorials to Wall of Excellence scholarship at Viroqua Area Schools, Viroqua United Methodist Church or Vernon County Historical Society. Online condolences may be made at
