Eugene Arthur “Beaner” Hatlan, age 63, of Viroqua, passed away at his home on February 19th, 2021 with his family and friends surrounding him after a battle of pancreatic cancer. Eugene was born on February 4th, 1958 to Joseph and Mildred (Lee) Hatlan He was baptized and confirmed at the West Prairie Hauge Lutheran Church. He attended grade school in Ferryville, then high school in DeSoto.
Beaner enjoyed watching his westerns, along with his wrestling that he enjoyed with his family. He enjoyed his special barber Rachel who was the only one that he would allow to do his hair and beard. He worked for 13 years at VARC Center in Viroqua. He also worked as a farm laborer, worked in tobacco harvest, and worked at Fort McCoy as well. He enjoyed listening to his country western music as well as dancing, sitting around the campfires, playing cards and horseshoes. He loved to joke and have fun. Beaner was loved and liked by everyone who knew him. He had the biggest heart to help anyone. He had a great personality that everyone loved. Beaner enjoyed his time with the apple of his eye, his niece Gracielee.
He is survived by his five brothers Myron (Marilyn) Hatlan of Sparta, Bernie(Taylor) Hatlan of Luray, Virginia, Joseph Clifford Hatlan Jr. of Viroqua, Calvin (Kendra) Hatlan of Hillsboro, and Steve Hatlan of Tomah; one sister Elizabeth (James) Broadhead of Westby; his special aunt Evelyn (David) Leirmo of Ferryville; two very special ladies in his life Barb Weaverstad of La Crosse, and Patti Clossey of Viroqua; his special hospice team family Tammy, Theresa, Gil, and Heidi. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Beaner was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Gaylord Allen Hatlan, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 1 p.m. at The Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua Pastor George Schick officiating.
