Paul Simpson, age 55, of Camp Douglas passed away March 2nd, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Columbus, Indiana to Donald and Margaret (Wigley) Simpson. Before graduating high school, he entered the US Army on the delayed entry program in 1982. After completing basic training and advanced individual training as an Automatic Test Equipment Repair Technician (35C), he was stationed with the 15th Maintenance Detachment in Pirmasens, Germany from 1984-86. Leaving active duty, he entered the US Army Reserves serving with the 327th Data Processing Unit at Fort Benjamin Harrison from 1987-94. Reclassifying in 1994 as a Medical Equipment Repairer (91A) he joined the 337th Combat Support Hospital also based at Fort Benjamin Harrison until 2003. He was mobilized to Fort Lewis, Washington from 2003-04 with the 872nd Ordnance Company. Returning from his mobilization he served in the Central Medical Readiness Support Group out of Fort Sheridan, Illinois, retiring in 2006. During his time in the US Army Reserves he continued to support soldiers as a Biomedical Technician and eventually Site Administrator at Regional Training Site – Medical (RTS-MED) at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. After leaving RTS-MED he took on a position at the Tomah VA Medical Facility as a Biomedical Technician, serving veterans. He was very active with the Tomah Youth Soccer Program and Tomah Softball League. He looked forward to being a part of the big deer hunt each fall with family and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and watching sci-fi movies.
Paul is survived by his wife Renee; children Rhiannon (Ryan), Sean, Gregorio, Caterina and Annalise; grandchildren, Carter and Addley; brother, David Simpson; mother-in-law, Linda Lockington; brother-in-laws, Scott (Jean) Lockington, Jeff (Denise) Lockington, Eric (Gina) Lockington; sister-in-law, Heather (Tony) Gregoire; former spouse, Sonja Simpson; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Sascha Simpson; parents, Margaret and Donald Simpson; sister, Elaine Garrett; father-in-law, Dennis Lockington
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua with Father Nathaniel Kuhn will officiating. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Military rites will be provided following the service. A private family burial will take place.
