Ted Johnson

Theodore J. Johnson, 102, of 604 Congress Ave., died Thursday, March 26, 2020, at Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua.Ted was born on May 31, 1917 in Marathon County, Wis. to Francis and Julia (Goskowicz) Stankowski. He went to Holt School in Galloway, WI. He married Georgiana Rozumialski on June 20, 1941 and they had four children. Ted was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served in the States and Europe until the war ended in 1945. He was proud to talk about the time he served in France and Germany as a supply truck driver in an anti-tank company.

After the war, he worked at Wausau Paper and Marmet. From the mid 1960’s through his retirement in 1992, he worked on a dairy farm and at Nelson Muffler in Viroqua. Ted defied his age and deer hunted with his good friend Paul Elvekrog until 95, push-mowed his yard until 98, and snow blew his drive until 100. Glaucoma drops were his only meds.

Ted is survived by his children, Lester (Judi) of Wausau, Judy (Walter) Barcus of Council Bluffs, IA, and Patricia Stankowski of Wausau. Siblings Edwin, Ernest, and Dominick of Wausau, Evelyn Nowak of Edgar, and Virginia Falkowski of Stevens Point. Grandchildren, Jim(Dorie) Barcus and Mike(Glen) Barcus of Council Bluffs, IA, Tammy(Mike) Gajewski of Wausau, Megan Stankowski of Wausau, Mitchell(fiance Hailey Haase) Stankowski of Wausau, Tammy Brown of Stevens Point, Samantha(Ed) Henke of Almond, and five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special friend Alma’s grandchildren Larry, Greg, and Brian Kolden and their families.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Carl Stankowski, siblings Sally(Barney) Woytasik, Johanna Stankowski, Sylvester Stankowski, Vincent(Irene) Stankowski, Alex(Regina) Stankowski, Leo Stankowski, Severin(Marie) Stankowski, Lucille Stankowski, Mary Stankowski, Marcella Stankowski and Clifford Falkowski.  And long time special friend Alma Lowery
