Veda G. Buros, age 98, of Viroqua, passed away on March 31st, 2020 at Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born on April 4th, 1921 in Stuben, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles E. and Emily B. Muender. The family shortly thereafter moved to Gays Mills, Wisconsin, where her father managed one of the apple orchards. The family later moved to Viroqua where her father was employed by Nuzum Lumber Co. Veda graduated from Viroqua High School in 1938. She was known throughout the area as a vocal soloist and a member of a popular trio that included Jan Nelson and Idelle Lucas. After graduation she took a secretarial job in Viroqua’s Federal Land Bank offices. Later she became the accountant for Clark’s Buick Dealership. It was then that she met her future husband, Clayton Buros, who passed away December 7th, 2006. They were avid dancers when the area had a number of dance halls furnishing recreation to ease the scars of the depression. As a couple they enjoyed many friends and Veda became known as a gracious and accomplished hostess. She enjoyed playing bridge and had many years of enjoyment with her club. Veda retired from the State Bank of Viroqua where she served many years in the loan department. Veda and Clayton were local entrepreneurs who fostered a number of local businesses, including a roller-skating rink, The Tog Shop men’s clothing store, and most recently a discount clothing and shoe store in the old Amory building on main street.
Veda was a part of a family of nine and was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. Her only living sibling is Percy (Diane) Muender of Rockford IL., as well as other family and friends. Private Services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Vernon County Historical Museum. Online condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.thorsonfuneralhome.com
